Learning Goal: I’m working on a chemistry writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Tramadol molecule contains a ring that could adopt different chair conformers. Based

on above picture, draw both conformers and assess steric strain in each. Which

conformer is the more stable one? Explain your answer (use Newman projection in

your explanation).
