Asian Studies Question

Write a mini-essay. Your mini-essay should be at least 500 words with cited works from required class readings (Week #1 & Week #2). You may go over 500 words (2 to 3 pages, typed, double-spaced). Of course, you may go over 500 words or 3 pages. Please include a “works cited page” which is not part of the word count. Citing readings from Week #1 & Week #2 are required.

Why are you taking this class? What do you hope to gain from this class? What is your racial/ethnic/religious/national/gender/socioeconomic/sexual orientation background? How does your identity and heritage relate to this class? Or, how does your identity and heritage inform your understanding of this class? Discuss the history of ethnic studies at CSUN, particularly Asian American studies. What makes Asian American Studies at CSUN unique and different from other ethnic studies departments? What makes Asian American Studies at CSUN like other ethnic studies departments? How is the struggle for Asian American Studies and ethnic studies in general related to the history and politics of what it means to be Asian American (or Asian American Pacific Islander & Desi American) in the United States? What does Asian American Studies/ethnic studies symbolize?
